Question Tire Pressure Light

I have an 04 Solara, which I just had new tires installed on the orig rims. Now the Tire Pressure Light is on. All tires are properly inflated, including the spare. The place that installed the tires said the Tire Monitoring Systen works off the ABS system...

Does the 2004 Solara use sensors in the value stems? or work off the ABS system?

Your tire dealer is correct, the pressure warning system reads the ABS system to determine whether one wheel (on the same axle) is turning more quickly than the other. If so the light is turned on.

Chances are good your system was reset at a different pressure than is currently in the tires or (as happens too frequently) the dealer has aired up your new tires with slightly different pressures.

The fix: With the tires cold (not driven for a couple of hours) check and set your tire pressures to the OEM spec (shown on the drivers door sill) or your preferred pressures. Reset the system properly by holding the button (to the left of the steering post at the bottom of the dash panel) with the key on until the light blinks several times. Some owners just press the button for a second which turns the light off temporarly but does 'not' reset the system.

You'll find all the above information for resetting the tire pressure warning system in your owners manual.

Cheers

Thanks.... that fixed the problem. Someone stole our owner's manual, so we were at a loss.

Too bad the tire dealer didn't know this... It would have saved me a lot of time.

Thanks again.

Visit my Solara site: http://www.gadgetjq.com/solara/

Click on "Maintenance". The first item on that page is a Solara owners manual (for the '06 but it's the same as your car). Download and print the pdf file, you'll be good to go.

Cheers

As it happens my wife drives a Highlander. It's an '04 though so not the same as the new (larger, more powerful) model.

It's a nice truck, feeling larger from the inside than it looks from the outside but the Solara is for sure a 'lot' more fun to drive.

Cheers
