Question Problem with Cassette Adapter ('01 SLE)

I have a 2001 SLE with the factory stereo unit installed, with the CD/AM/FM/Cassette player. I wanted to listen to my iPod in the car instead of constantly burning CD's, so I picked up one of the cassette adapters (like this) to hook up to it since I have had bad experiences with the FM transmitter ones in the past.

Long story short, it does not work. When I put the tape into the tape deck, it constantly changes from Side A to Side B for about 15-20 seconds, then ejects the tape.

Is this a known issue? Is there some sort of secret to getting this thing to work?

Had the exact same problem , after a while of NOT being able to determine the problem, I just went ahead and bought a new dvd player with ipod interface.

The tape drive wheel (rubber wheel ) needs to feel some resistance, and similar the winding drive that spins the take up spool needs to be able to spin freely, then there is a tape tension sensor (spring loaded post) that touches the tape

if any of these either feels the adapter is binding or the tension of tape is too high, it will flip sides.

So I suppose the opposite would be true as well, if the cassette adapter is too loose, they would think there wasn't a tape in at all? I guess maybe I'll try to check it out, but if I have to take apart the radio I'll just return the thing and keep making CD's I guess. Is this something I can have a dealership look at?
