Hello all!!....I have just bought a 01 solara and it did not come
with a key pad. I called the dealer and according to my vin number,
my car is enabled with KLE. Wanted to know if I could buy
the remote offline (found one for about $50 shipped with instructions)
or is it best to pay dealer prices. My quote was 150 for the keypad and
50 to activate. A little steep for a senior in college. Anyone have any suggestions??

Check E-Bay. There are dealers there that specialize in selling remotes and most say the remote comes with instructions for programming. Here's one of about a hundred examples and under $20 with shipping will be hard to beat.

You may have programming instructions in your owners manual too.

Just as gadgetjg posted, go to ebay. I just purchased 2 programmable keys and a remote for under $50. He will also send you instructions on programming.
