Oil and filter change advise

I own a 2003 Toyota Solara, 4cyl VVTi. I would like to know what is the best brand of oil to use for my car? Also, what is the best brand air filter model# ?

Knightbird,

Oil threads are notorious for the number of opinions you'll get. Some swear by synthetics while others will say anything off the shelf at Wal-Mart is good enough.

I'll suggest you check this web page: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

Or, if you don't like to read just use what your owners manual suggests.

As for the air filter, again there are as many opinions as owners but you really only have three options.
1. Keep it stock if you're happy with the performance
2. Replace the OEM intake with an aftermarket performance intake (it'll be noisier than stock)
3. Replace your stock paper filter with a K&N. You won't really gain that much power (if any) but you'll never have to replace the filter again, only clean it every year or two.

Cheers

^ You can also get OEM style replacement filters from Wix or Purolator, among other companies.
