P1135 Code

Okay, now that I've figured out how to post a new thread . . . I can post my question.

I have a 2002 Solara, SLE V6 with 95k miles on it. Last week I installed a new battery because of slow turn over, and occassionally needing a jump start. Sometime after the battery was installed, I noticed the Malfunction lamp was illuminated. A couple days after that, the Traction Control OFF lamp came on. I scanned the computer and got only one indicator, Manufacturer Control Fuel Air Metering. I've searched the TN site for similar threads and couldn't find anything specific to the Solara, but a couple posts about other Toys coming up with same code. Something about a sensor. My question is . . . what next? I don't really want to take it to a dealer because I fear it will be very expensive. I have a friend who is a mechanic, and I plan on buying the manual. Any suggestions as to what the next course of action should be? Thanks

The codes are pretty much standardized between Toyota models and even other cars.

P1135: A/F Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction, Bank 1, Sensor 1.

The air fuel heater circuit has a short or open circuit or bad sensor. Bank 1, Sensor 1 is the located on the cylinder head exhaust pipe near the firewall.

Reset the check engine light and see if it comes on again. If so you can purchase a replacement sensor and install it. Make sure you get a sensor for the type of emissions standard your car was built to, this being California standards or Federal. Suggest the Denso brand or a Toyota dealer part.

Try www.rockauto.com for mail order parts.

The other lights, TRAC, VSC, etc can come on when along with the check engine light. The computer is attempting to lower the engine loading by turning these systems off. If you fix the P1135 issue, the computer should reset and turn these systems back on.
