Interference Engine

WHAT'S UP TOYOTA LOVERS, I GOT A QUESTION? , I HAVE THE V6 SOALRA AND WAS WONDERING IF THE TIMING BELT IN MY CAR BREAKS WILL THERE BE ANY DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR OR WILL THE BELT JUST BREAK AND NOT RUN. TOYOTA DEALERS ARE RELUCTANT TO GIVE OUT ANT INFO ON THIS ISSUE PLEASE HELP . I DON'T WANT TO SPEND ALL THAT MONEY IF I DON'T HAVE TO. THANX GUYS AND GALS

No, unless the engine has variable valve timing. Should have something on the engine such as VVT, etc if it has this.

It depends which V6 you have (you don't mention what year Solara you own).

Here's the engine rundown (I'm including them all for future reference). Notice the Gen I V6 is non interference, Gen II is an interference engine.

5SFE (4cyl 99-01) - Belt, non-interference
2AZFE (4cyl 02-now) - Chain, non-interference
1MZFE (V6 99-03) - Belt, non-interference
3MZFE (V6 04-now) - Belt, interference.

Even if you own a Gen I V6 Corey, you should change the belt as recommended. When they break, Murphy's law kicks in and it'll happen on a Saturday night on an unlighted road on a hill, just beyond a blind corner with no shoulder out in the boonies somewhere with no cell service.
