Unhappy Driver Side Door Mirror Replacement

My old lady backed out of the garage and left the driver side door mirror on the floor.
Looks like the foundation is in place, with 3 wires sticking out...and the silver painted housing+mirror has been stripped clean off. The mirror is cracked.

It's Sunday so i can't call up a toyota service dept. I'm just browsing the internets to see if something comes up. I wanted to ask the forum if:

1) you've been through a similar situation and what you recommend.
2) know of any good online sites that have this driver side door mirror (heated/silver housing).

Thanks in advance.

Matt

3) If anyone knows what a decent dealer price should be, please let me know.

I'll be pretty upset if the dealer says something like $400.

Matt,

If you don't way to pay dealer prices how about checking local/state recyclers. Many are organized to the point you can make a part request at one and if they don't have it they'll put out a call to others to see if they have one. Worst case you find the wrong color and have it repainted. Somewhere in a junkyard sits your mirror right this moment.

The alternative is, of course, dealers but you have options there too. Start with your local Toyota dealer then check some that have a high profile online like Sparks Toyota http://www.trdsparks.com/ . That link is to their TRD site but my experience has been very good service and excellent pricing (I haven't ordered any oem parts though).

Good luck and....don't give the bride a hard time. You never know when 'you' are going to mess up and trust me, she'll never let you forget it.

Cheers

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I put in a request to Automotix.com and a few other online junkyards. Seemed to be quite thorough and hopefully something will get back to me. Paid the $5.95 to make it an official exhaustive search.

I also called the toyota dealer. Even the guy on the phone was blown away by the $470 msrp. He said the best he could do is knock $100 off of that. I forgot to ask him whether the '04 is compatible with 05-08. That could help my online searches.

I'm going to see if I can somehow attach that mirror and housing back for a week or so, until I feel that i've given the junkyards ample time to get back to me.

thanks again for the info.

The 05-08s should work just fine with your 04. They did a slight model refresh in 07 so if you want to be totally safe just look for 04-06, they will all be the same for sure.
HTH.

Gen4 2000 Camry LE

Heh on Mother's Day my mom cracked the plastic housing that contains the driver side mirror.

Does anyone know if you can just replace the plastic housing? The motor for adjusting the mirror still works, mirror is not cracked etc.

Incidentally, On my 2000 Camry the mirrors do not fold back. If it's crazy expensive to replace, has anyone modded their side mirrors to be more functional?

Im pretty sure you can, but it will be more work than just replacing the whole mirror. Toyota does not just sell the housing so you would have to get it from a junk yard (and find your color unless you want to pay for paint too).
