Solara convertible in car wash?

I recently purchased an '02 Solara convertible and, while the owner's manual states you cannot run it through the car wash I was wondering if that includes so-called "touchless" car washes?

Any help appreciated.

SM,

I've been told by car wash operators their soap is fairly harsh and can actually remove the ScotchGuard stain and water proofing impregnated into the roof fabric.

The very best way to wash your car is by hand (yours). That way you can find any little paint chips and touch them up before they become a problem allowing moisture under the paint.

On your top use a product called "Ragg Topp". It's available online or maybe at a large auto supply store in your area. Get the 'kit'. You'll have a spray can of water proofing to apply once or twice a year and a special soap for use on canvas and vinyl roofs.

Now an alternative for those who can't wash the car at home for one reason or another. If you can find a wash that will avoid soaping your top (total hand wash) then you should be ok. Tell them not to soap the top. Another option, look for one of those 'do it yourself' places with the high pressure wands. Stand far back from the vehicle (that pressure can peel the paint right off a car), wet your Solara down then fill a bucket with water and soap designed for auto use. Wash with a sponge or (better) sheepskin mit then spot free rinse with the wand.

Cheers

Thanks, Gadgetjq. I had thought that if there was a problem it would be related to the top leaking, not the soap being too harsh.
Thanks again.
