Gas Mileage

This is an odd issue I'm having. My highway gas mileage is jumping around. I used to get a fairly steady 28 mpg, then I did some work on the car (replaced oil pan gasket, replaced tranny pan gasket, replaced power steering pump, changed timing and drive belts) and now my gas mileage has jumped around in this order: from the steady 28 to 31, to 22, to 38, to 26, to 34. Any ideas what could be the problem? No check engine light is on, and my car is driving better than ever.... I did recently get a little seafoam happy and seafoamed the crank case and added it in my gas tank.

Any help would be appreciated..

the randomly changing numbers is probably due to the quality of gas in your area not being consistant or possibly an o2 sensor on its way out (probably not) Keep in mind that temperature, tire pressure, driving conditions, ac use, and a million other factors do effect your fuel economy... I say purchase the same gas, from the same station on the same weekday at the same time of day to improve you're method of obtaining your mpg numbers... it reduces the variables that you can control.

p.s. send a lil seafoam down one of your vacuum lines too (brake booster or pcv) just make sure you change your oil within 200 miles of using seafoam.
