a muffler for a 02 solara, but not for it.

I got a muffler that was made for my car. It wasn't clear about the piping for it. The inlet/outlet of the muffler are 5in. But the problem is that the car has 2in piping. I'm trying to find out how to get it to fit. I can't find a 2in to 5in conversion pipe either so i'm hoping midas or meineke got some.

anybody know how to make this work? from what it sounds like, i don't think it will work.

this is the muffler: http://www.car-stuff.com/store/?N=11...725+11920+9164

It's curious the vendor would note the muffler has a 5" inlet and outlet but doesn't post an adapter on the same page. If I were you I'd spend some time on the "Discount Car Parts Stuff" website trying to find the adapter and if that fails give them a call and see what they suggest. Obviously the muffler isn't intended to be a direct bolt on.

Cheers

yeah, that's what i figured. i'm gonna call them up cuz, i can't find one on any website. i think i know how to have them make one for me. do you remember those plastic swords in the early 1990s? the ones that would have like 5 tubes and they slide out to form a sword. I think it was called a retractable sword. I was thinkin if they can do that for an adapter. lol. It's worth a try.

thanks for the advice tho.

I have a simpler idea for you. Take the new muffler to a muffler shop (preferably one that does custom work for hot rods etc). Have them cut the intake end off the muffler and weld on a proper 2" intake that will slip right onto your pipe. That way you won't have possible space issues caused by stepping down the way you've suggested or the turbulence that sort of setup would cause.

Here's a link to a picture showing something like what I've suggested: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...p-70967981.htm

Obviously another option is to send that 5" item back and get a muffler that's 'really' made to fit your car.

Cheers
