Cool 2000 Solara Front Window tint

Hey all, I have a 2000 solara, and when we bought it used, it had the back windows tinted, and now we want to do the front windows, it gets too hot in that car, and the side front windows are so big! I was wondering if anyone on here has done this before, and what % they used. We were leaning towards 35%, since that's what I had done on the front windows of my Dodge ram. Thanks for any help!

check your state law for the correct legalized percentage. But with what you want - 35%, you'll definitely be safe. The norm is anywhere from 30-35%. I have 35% on mine, wish I could go darker, but don't necessarily want to attract too much attention. It will definitely cut back on the heat a little.

Justin,

Use the tint % YOU like, not what others are using. First though, check your state laws. Some states have no problems with super dark tint (Arizona for example) while others don't allow it at all from the drivers eyes forward. Many will allow aftermarket tint only as dark as the OEM tint would have been for the car if you'd gotten the option. Whatever your state allows it should be listed on the DMV website.

Of course you can tint as dark as you like no matter what the law says and if you're stopped apologize to the officer, take the fixit ticket and strip the tint off first chance you get.

Cheers

Well, I live in California, and I think any % is not legal or 75% is the only one,but that's next to nothing, and I had 35 done on my truck anyway, it makes cars look good and keeps the sun out, so I know about the risk, and i still think im going to do it 35%. thanks for the input.

Ah! In that case, from the CHP's website:
Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
  1. The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
  2. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

So, you can (legally) add clear film with UV protection but no tint.

Cheers
