Muffler Tip

How does the stock Muffler tip come off on the stock exhaust of a 2004 Solara. I tried pulling and turning, it won't budge. I tried a hammer and crow bar... Is the thing welded? Does it have to be cut? Will WD40 help?

New Edit: After going through all the below the sun came up so I went out and took a look at the tip on my Solara. It's different from the accessory tip and appears to be tack welded. I'm afraid removal is going to require a hacksaw, sawsall or something similar for you.

Toyota shows the stainless steel exhaust tip as an accessory for some Solara models. It is a simple slip on held with a clamp. I don't know that the same applies to models that come from the factory with the tip but it's worth checking.

If you've already removed the clamp and the tip won't come off try penetrating oil (not WD40 or other silicone spray). Apply liberally around the tip edge and let sit for a day (this would obviously work better if you could stand the car up on the rear bumper).

Edit to add picture link: http://www.gadgetjq.com/solara/tip.htm The picture shown on the link is from the tip installation guide. It shows the clamp. The installation instructions are very simple (once you get past the 'protect vehicle and wear safety goggles stuff). Slip the clamp over the tip inlet, slip the tip on, measure to be sure the tip is inboard slightly from the edge of the bumper (so water isn't dripping on it) and a specific distance below the fender then tighten clamp. That's it.

Cheers

See edited reply above. Just curious, why are you trying to remove the tip?
