04 solara sle Tire Pressure Light

The other day the tire pressure light in my 2004 solara SLE came on. I filled the tires to the suggested 33 psi. the light has still not gone off it has been about 8 days. I have also confirmed with both a digital and pneuamtic tire guages the pressure in the tires.

anyone have any clue what is going on and how to fix it.

Read owners manual, find out if the system is also installed in the spare tire.

The system has a reset, read owners manual for location. Make sure all tires are at normal pressure before reseting.

Blackburn,

To reset the system: Turn on your ignition and push the reset button on lower left side of the dash (to the left of the steering column). Hold the button in for several seconds until the tire pressure warning light blinks. Once it blinks you can let go of the button and the system goes into 'learning' mode for a few miles. All that information is in your owners manual.

BTW on your '04 there is no sensor in the spare tire. That's for the Gen 2.5 Solara's with the sensor in the valve stem. Your warning system uses the anti lock brake sensors on each wheel to determine how fast the wheel is turning. If the pressure drops the wheel turns more slowly than the tire on the opposite side of the axle so the system assumes pressure is down.

You can run any pressure you want in the tires (factory spec isn't necessarily the best for handling or local road conditions) as long as you have the 'same' pressure on both sides of the axle which you'd want to do anyway. If you change pressures and the light activates just reset it again.

Cheers
