Hey JM,
It doesn't appear any GenI Solara owners are jumping in to help you so, for whatever it's worth I'll give it a try. Just keep in mind I have a Gen II so there may be some differences.
Take a look under the hood and you should find a V belt driving your air conditioning compressor (and possibly the power steering pump though that may be on the other belt). There are three ways to fix the squealing.
1. Make sure the belt is tightened properly. General rule of thumb is about 1/2" of slack along the longest section of belt. You should find an adjuster bolt at the bottom of the alternator. Loosen two bolts holding the alternator, adjust the tightening bolt then retighten the two mounting bolts.
2. If the belt is properly adjusted try some belt dressing. You'll find it at any auto supply store. Follow directions on the container. Belt dressing usually ends up being a temporary fix and the squeel will return.
3. Check your owners manual and vehicle mileage. You don't say what your mileage is but maybe it's time for a belt replacement. To replace just get the appropriate size belt from an auto supply or Toyota dealer. Loosen the generator mounting bolts, dial in a bunch of slack with the adjusting bolt then slip off the old belt, slip on the new. The other belt might be in front of the one you're replacing but it'd be a good idea to change both at the same time.
As always I'd recommend you purchase a Chilton or Haynes maintenance manual for your car. They're available at Amazon.com if you can't find one at a local auto supply. The manual is very inexpensive (probably $30 or so) and pictures along with text will help a bunch with any maintenance.
Cheers
