Wheels?

Hey again! I have a 2000 solara 4cyl coupe with the stock 16-inch rims and the factory spec tires. I want to upgrade to some bigger rims with low pros. I think my bolt size is 5x114.3 and I have been looking at some 17"x9"s but i think i might even be able to go up to 18"s but Im not sure? Suggestions?
thanks!

BP,

Changing wheel sizes can get a little complicated. Rather than reinvent the proverbial wheel let me refer you to a couple of very informative posts on the subject. You'll either be enlightened or confused when you've read them both but at least you'll be able to make an educated wheel decision.

http://www.solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=29865

http://www.solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=19601 (really applies more to the Gen II Solara when it come to clearance issues)

Also check www.tirerack.com On the site you can input your car make/model/year and will be shown appropriate size wheels that will fit without clearance issues.

Cheers

I think 9" wide rims is pushing it, you'll run into rubbing the strut (unless you get the correct offset) but then if you do that, the tires will most likely be sticking out of the wheel-well, unless that's the look your going for. 18's will definitely work and so will 19's. I have 18x7.5, but 18x8 will work also. if you look on solaraguy.com, there's a thread that shows the specs and pics of members' rides...some good info.
