Sun damage? Headlight and window seals

I recently bought a 04 Solara used. It's a beautiful car and is in fair condition.

However, besides the minor dings and whatnot, I noticed what i presumed to be pretty bad sun damage on the headlights and window seals.

On the headlights, the plastic is not smooth to the touch, and looks "cloudy" or something. I'm sorry I can't post pictures at the moment, it's a little dark outside.

The lower exterior window seals have a spotting problem that also looks to be the result of sun damage.

I tried scrubbing with a plastic/vinyl/rubber cleaner but it had no effect on either.

Can anyone reccomend a way to get rid of this? Pictures soon...

Thanks!

Most auto supply stores will have products to deal with both of your issues.

You'll need a plastic polish like Novus or Maguiars for the headlight covers. Those brands come in different strengths (#1, #2, #3 etc) based on the amount of damage. I'd start with the middle number of whatever you choose then switch to the finest polish. It'll take a little elbow grease but you can get every bump and scratch out of the lenses. Done correctly they'll look like new.

Sun damage to the rubber trim may be a little tougher. You can improve the looks with restoration products but the only way to get a 'like new' look may be to replace the rubber.

Cheers

I don't know of a specific product. I'm thinking your best resource (unless someone on this forum has an idea) would be a local auto detailer. They might have the perfect product in their 'kit' and could clean up the trim in a few minutes at minimal cost. Or, they can tell you it's impossible to repair with chemicals.

Cheers
