Newbie owner 99 Solara Coupe, needs engine, what years fit?

Hello all!

NEW MEMBER HERE, BE KIND.....LOL

I just bought a 99 Solara Coupe with the V6 3.0 1MZFE engine in it but the engine is VERY tired and smokes like all get out. I have seen ALOT of info stating that the Toyota 3.0 V6 is the same from 94-01 and ive also seen info stating that only 98-01 will work. Is there a final word on which years will interchange in my car? Any and all info provided is greatly appreciate.

Camry 1MZFE V6s from 1997-2000, and Solara 1MZFEs from 1999-2003 should be direct replacements for you.

The Gen 3 camry coupes came with the "first generation" 1MZFE, These are 94-96 Camrys. Any earlier than that and the 2VZFE is used. It is the same block as the 1MZ but with different heads, a distributor style igniton...etc. I believe that a 1MZ from an early Gen 3 Camry would work with modification to the engine harness/mounts. The "2nd gen" 1MZ from a Gen 4 Camry or a Gen 1/1.5 Solara should be a direct swap.
