2000 Solara trunk latch

All of a sudden my trunk unlatches at rough rr tracks or roads. It takes several firm attempts to make it latch. It'll stay latched for a while and then at some rough surfaces it will unlatch. Is there an adjustment to make or replace latch?

it could be that your release cable is being pinched off at the trunks hinge. check the left side and see if there are marks on the cable to indicate thats its being clamped down.

This is going to seem weird but is there any chance when you hit RR tracks or rough patches in the road your keyfob is bouncing and hitting something? If so 'maybe' the trunk button is getting hit and popping the latch electrically. I know, not likely but stranger things have happened.

Cheers

Trunk won't latch

What had happened was that I was hauling picture frames and the trunk would not shut. So I used, as I had many times before, a bungee cord to hold it down. I placed the hook into the latch and pulled the other hook under the rear bumper. Last week I finally took it to two Toyota specialist and one told me it would cost $186 if the latch was broken and needed to be replaced or $100 if it only needed adjusting/repair. The next guy pulled the black boot off to look and found the little spring that holds the latch and lock had come off. In fifteen minutes or less he put it back on and didn't charge me as long as I always brought my business to him in the future. So, for future reference, if you happen to do what I did, this may happen. Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions!

Ah Ha! That little tidbit would have been helpful to those tryin to troubleshoot the problem. As so often happens it came down to 'what did you do before noticing the part was broken/didn't work' that might have affected it.

It's good you've figured it out.

Cheers!
