Question 02 Conv. Headlight Question

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a 02 Solara Convertible SLE. On the driver's side, just to the left of the defroster vent, there is what appears to be a light sensor. My old car had automatic light that was controled by a sensor just like this. Does anyone know why it might have this sensor if it does't have automati lights?

THANKS!
Aaron

all the solaras should have automatic lights. but unlike some cars where there is a switch for automatic lights, the solara is automatically automatic and there's no way of turning that off.

That is what I was expecting. However, my headlights do no come on automatically in any of the four positions. It is either all off (DRL OFF) daytime driving lights on (DRL), marking lights and interior dash lights (a horizontal dash), and finally all lights and headlights on.

Is there anyone out there that has a '02 solara and can tell me if it has automatic headlights, and if so how they operate them.

Thanks!

Ok; so, I have confirmed that the automatic headlight are supposed to function when the control stick is on DRL. However, only the daytime light stay on and the actual headlight and interior controls never illuminate. Does anyone know of an easy way to diagnose where this problem might be arising from?
