If you do decide to change fluid, be sure you ONLY use original Toyota fluid. Get it from a dealer. There are two different ones. The correct one should be listed in your owner's manual and will be stamped on the dipstick. Do not mix fluid types. That will spell disaster for your transmission. Draining the pan will remove approximately 5 quarts of fluid. Power flushing will remove most of the fluid but does have a slight risk of blowing a seal. On my Solara, I drained the pan at 80k miles and added 5 quarts of fluid. Local oil change place showed me fluid discolored, dirty looking, at 86k, Wanted to powerflush transmission for $140. Went to dealer, who told me fluid was fine. Discoloration was normal. Choice is yours. Hy

Power flushing needs to be done by a transmission shop, oil change station or dealer. Special equipment is needed. Draining the pan requires just a large Allen wrench and a drain pan. Hy
