2004 Solara vs. 2004 WRX

Yeah, it may be like comparing apples to oranges. But I would like to get any feedback on this topic. I'm in the market to buy one of these cars. I've driven both. My main problem is my wife does not drive stick, so I have to stay automatic. I like the overall style/look of the 04 Solara but the performance of the WRX is awesome! My dad also works for Toyota and can get a discount. Any thoughts..........

Solara no doubt. auto with the navigation... all options etc. plus you get a discount... the wrx would be a nice sporty car for you but its not a girls kinda car.

Yeah dude, if those are your choices then WRX. You know they make an auto WRX don't you? The only WRX that isn't auto is the STI model. You can HOOK UP the WRX soooo much, like 500+ hp!! You do the math

Solara is decently fast, 7 second 0-60. (V6 auto) Of course this is nothing compared to the WRX, but Toyota makes their cars well balanced.

If I were to get the WRX, I'd go all the way and get the STI version, but if not, I'd go with the Solara. WRX is all out sports, and zero comfort compared to the solara. Interior looks cheap, lower quality from Toyota, etc.

I've never owned anything other than a Camry so I may be biased..but the Solara is much more refined and tolerable as a daily driver. I'm sure your wife will appreciate that. With the savings you get you can used that towards the purchase of a supercharger, suspension, headers, exhaust etc... and you'll have a fun daily driver that wifey wouldn't mind bootin' around town.

I seen a 2004 solara today on the road...it looked pretty nuts, almost like a lexus SC. In my opinion, everybody has WRX's. They are just too common, just like suped up civics. I would rather get a Solara because nobody's got em yet. Or if I wanted a 4wd sports car i would choose the evo over the wrx. It just looks way more badass

well who is the driver of the car?

solara i'm assuming drives like a camry so its a friendly daily driver, smooth and quiet

however the wrx is bumpy and doesnt ride smooth and is more of a track car

if you're the main driver and she will just drive it rarely then i would get the wrx and teach her to drive stick or just get the auto i guess, but if she is the main driver, she be more happy with the solara as it is more smooth and reliable since it is n/a

The automatic WRX can be quite fast (I know of multiple ones in the low 12 second range...).

What do you really want in a car. Go test drive both of them. Do you need storage space? Do you need speed/handling? Do you need comfort? The reliability of the Subaru will be quite good, though maybe not up to par with a Toyota (I know many Subarus with over 200k miles though).

In the end its up to you - they are similar in price, so now you just have to decide what's most important to you!

yeah i would say what are your needs... are you looking for a sporty car with less room, or do you need room for a family somewhere in the life of your car... solara + supercharger i'd say...
