Removing Stereo on Solara?

I bought a PA-15 Toy to install in my Solara so I can connect my Ipod directly to my car stereo. How do I remove the stereo from the Solara so I can connect it. I have an '02. Thanks. David

Hi David,

You're gonna need a tool thats wide, thin, and durable to pry out the panels from the sides. I used a putty knife/scraper lying around my garage and it worked perfectly fine.

Here's the process I went through; I worked from bottom, clock-wise (I'm assuming your '02 interior is the same as my '01):

1. Set your parking brakes and shift your gearbox to L so the stick gets out of the way. You may want to disconnect the negative battery cable now to prevent shorts.

2. Sit in the passenger seat. Take out the ashtray and lighter plug completely so they don't get in the way. Then, grab the panel ends under the ashtray and lighter compartment and pull firmly until some of the panel gives way. Don't need to pull out too much.

3. Slide your tool in between the crack on your panel's left and where the leather/cloth trim meet. Gently ply the panel until it pops out. I found it easy to start from the crack on the left of the climate control because there wasn't a panel fastener down there. Anyway, you're gonna be plying blind at first but you'll understand what to do after some working around.

4. Once you found out how to pop a part of the panel out, work your way around the edge of the panel clockwise until you popped out 3/4 of the entire panel. You should be able to tug out the rest of the panel by pulling at the it from under the lighter/ashtray area.

I hope this was of some help; you'll understand how it all works once you start trying to take the panel out. Good luck.

Could you do me a favor in return? I installed my PA15 and now I'm getting constant, noticable static from my speakers. Could you check your cd player prior to the installation and listen for the static level, and check again after your installation and let me know if there's a difference? I'd appreciate it
