Is the transmission shifter suposed to glow? PLEASE help!

I own a 2004 Toyota Solara SE and bought it brand new. I was driving home today and noticed that the area below the automatic shifter was not lit up. Now for some reason I cannot remember if P, R, D etc etc. for the transmission glowed when the headlights are on.

Are they supposed to glow/light up or am I remembering something that never was.

Thank you in advance.

(And if they are supposed to light up, is this most likely a fuse issue?)

Lighted shift points

Yes, the shift position lettering should glow lightly at night. Our 04 convertible does. If yours does not, the cause could be from several areas: fuse, light bulb, loose connector or the wiring it's self.
