I have an 05 Solara with a V6 and automatic. The owner's manual states that the car is not rated to tow anything. Nevetheless, I have a hitch on it. I have towed a 4'x8' utility trailer with a marine small block GM engine with manifolds on the trailer. The engine weighed about 450 lbs., the trailer a couple of hundred more. Granted, I only towed it about 15 miles, but I had no problems. The hitch I have is a class III hitch (I believe), but only because that's the only one I could find on the internet. If I've got my hitch classes correct, a class III is the strongest and used for the heaviest load. Don't even think about trying that; you'll overload the car. I do have a trailer light connector with an isolator to prevent screwing up the computer and electrical systems. Can you tow a total of 1000 lbs? I don't know. If you do, watch your speed and the temperature guage. Hy
