Gen1 Power Antenna

I have a 2001 Solara Convertible with a power mast antenna. I got the car this summer from my uncle who had it in Florida, now I have it in Vermont. This is the first snow that the car has been in and the first time I've had it in the snow. Getting to the point, the antenna doesn't raise all the way in the cold. This won't break the motor in anyway, right?

Take some WD40 and spray the antenna as extended as possible. Wipe with a paper towel to remove the residue and grime. Get the antenna to retract. Extend, spray, wipe and retract until it moves smoothly and extends completely.
