Thank you for the advice. I have a 2004 Solara convertible. Just took it to the dealership for 60,000 mile service. They told me I had to replace both the front brake pads and rear brake pads because they were both worn. (I found that a little suspicious, that both would have problems at the same time). Had a bill in excess of $1100. They also told me I needed to change the timing belt. It is squealing and it is recommended at 60,000 miles or 6 years. I have never heard it squeal at all. Of course, they said that it might break and I'd be stranded. I decided to take the chance, because I have AAA. They quoted me $880 to do that, because the water pump has to be changed at the same time. After reading the above comments, and finding out that someone has 100,000+ miles without changing the timing belt, I think I was robbed with their suggestion (the dealer). I now also wonder if the brake pads really needed to be changed, too. I certainly don't trust the dealer now. And of course, I think those repairs were pushed on me, because I'm female, and don't know any better. So, happy to get the good advice. I'll change where I get it serviced.
