how long does a rag top last in southern california?

I have a 2002 black rag top Solara and i have to have work done on the convertible frame. I was considering whether or not it is worth replacing the rag top while they are working on it. Have any of you had any experience with this?

thanks

rag top

very coincidental that you should post this: my 17 lb cat jumped on the top the wife's 2002 solara and a good size tear happening. looks like about $600+ will replace the top

we bought our 2006 solara conv new, now 6 years later it's time to replace the top. starting some very small wear through points at the rear bows. wife has had it up and down a million times, almost every day when the weather is nice.
