If I wanted to tighten the suspension on a Solara a bit, make it more sporty, where would be a good place to start? I've read about Tein... but know nothing about it.
I don't want it as rigid as the Matrix, but I don't want it cushy either. (I know I'm helping a ton with my details. :ob)
I'm sure you can tell I know squat about this. I'm trying to learn.
If you just go with Springs, (no new struts) your gonna have a real bouncy ride.
Gotta have the right combo.

At first I loved it, now I find myself wishing I'd splurged on the Jic Magic FLTA2 coilover set.
The setup I have is great for driving and even better with front and rear sway bars, but there are sometimes when I just want a little more.
But that's just me, what you think is comfortable might be a world of difference than mine.
But, IMO for starters and eibach/bilstein or eibach/toxico setup would probably be the one of the easier routes to go.
I can't comment on the Tein because I haven't heard much from them.
The JIC coilovers are a bit more advanced but they allow for a lot more flexibility, plus they cost more, not to mention I haven't heard a bad thing about them as far as performance goes.

If you're gonna get coilovers go with the D2 coilovers or the Tein.
I remember seeing a post that had a company that is the same as the D2 coilover. I'll see if i can find it....
I never heard anything like what you said about the JIC setup but judging by what Wraith says about it then you're most likely correct.
The K2 setup doesn't look half bad at all.
PS: I must reiterate, an eibach/ toxico or bilstein setup along with an RSB is going to give you a very noticeable increase and handling whilst keeping the ride pretty comfortable.

Trust me I have had much experience and heart ache with finding the right suspension set up for my 2000 solara. Do it right the first time, pay the money and get TEIN SS COILOVERS!!! I dropped about $1400 but its worth every penny. I originally had KYB struts with Eibach 1.6'' drop springs. The struts gave out after a year and the springs are just not that great. I then Replaced the struts with Tokico, they gave out after 8 months. I drive very aggressive. I have had the Coilovers for a year now and WOW there is no compersison!! You can adjust the ride height, adjust the spring rate and the dampaining to 16 different levels. I have a 1.75'' drop right now with the dampaining set pretty firm at 11, the experience is amazing.

erm... you should return on warranty.. they should at least have 1 year warrantys... shocks going bad.. maybe youre buying from someone that gets cheap dodgy batches?
just remember coil overs in general wont last as long as a typical shock, ive had my monroe's for at least 150,000kms of and theyre as if they were new.

You sound just like me. Check out intrax springs. Go to their website. They give a great description on what their springs are about. I think the website is www.intraxsuspension.com They are progressive rated springs. Basically what that means they are ment for everyday driving that provides confort, yet performance.
I'm telling you put up the money, save for longer, and do it right the first time get coilovers!!
They don't give out sooner then struts or spring set up. I'm speaking from experience. Plus why would you want progressive springs that you have no control over the spring rate, and then struts that will soften over time with the drop??? If you have never driven in a car with adjustable coilovers you really have no clue what the difference is like, it is night and day.
