I'm driving home last night , and was sitting at the lights, it goes green so i start to accelerate, all of a sudden my CEL came on and realized that i wasn't getting as much power when i stepped on the gas, then it smelled like a mixture of oil and rubber burning, then the car started to idle really weird to the point that it seemed like it was going to stall but then it doesn't. i'm thinking it's my timing belt but what do i know, i just got the car 3 months ago.any suggestions? this sucks
how many km's on your car? the timing belt should be replaced around 100-120, and if it was then there should be a tag saying when it was replaced, so check for that first
gotta get to a atuo parts store and have the code scanned, if you can get that, i guarantee that we can fix it ASAP. The knowledge of these cars is just vast when it comes to fixing problems

thanks guys, but i'm currently at work right now, good thing i have a company car, i've cancelled my afternoon appointments to spend some quality time with the Solara, it feels like i shouldn't be driving it though, at around 80kms the car started to vibrate pretty bad, so if it's not the timing belt then, i'm going to get it towed to a friends shop, get the malfunction code and go from there i guess, thanks again.

p0402=egr excessive flow detected

1.egr valve stuck open
2.egr vsv stuck open
3.short in vsv circuit
4.open or short in egr valve postion sensor malfuction
5egr valve postion sensor malfuction
6.pcm malfuction....
if you do a search with just p0401, you will find that quite a few of us has had that issue, its usually just a sticky valve, i would do some of the tricks that some of us used.
Tha Kidd- Yes i had that code, but im sure its different scenario than him. Remember it was my vacuum hoses that were wrong, so the vsv wasnt even opening, so i had an excess build up, but once you came by so i could compare, all was good. Now i just need to fix this o2 sensor problem and i should be good

so i find out my car still has warranty , took it to the dealer and so here's the update so far:
here's what the write up from the dealer said "CHECKED CODES FOUND IGNITION COIL ON NUMBER 1 MISFIRING SWITCHED TO 2 AND 5 PROBLEM CARRIED TO THIS CYLINDERS NEEDS COIL"
after doing a search the other day it seems to me that the P0401 / P0402 codes doesn't really make sense, can someone shed some light into this? i can see how the misfire can cause this but not really understand why.
btw: the Traction Control Indicator came on last night too, just came on when i started the car.
it ended up to be caused by the misfire(as to why that code came on, i'm still baffled), the vehicle was still under warranty so i took it in and the dealer fixed it, and the Solara's been driving great since. thanks to everyone that helped out, appreciate it.
in regards to your O2 sensors that makes more sense, there's a pretty informative thread posted, just do a search, enjoy your stay.
the only codes i got was that p0401/ p0402 i was talking to a friend of mine in regards and he pretty much explained that since there was a misfire in the cylinders it wasn't burning the fuel properly/enough so that set off the O2 sensors giving me those codes. yep the Solara is now up and running again.
