Factory Solara Rims - Will they fit?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and was hoping that some of you more knowledgeable members could steer me in the right direction.

I own a 1999 Solara SE and have come across an opportunity to purchase a set of Toyota OEM 17" rims off of a 2004 Solara, but here are my questions...

1.) will the 2004 17" rims fit on my 1999 Solara SE?

2.) if they will fit, does anyone know if I will have to purchase new lug nuts?

3.) if they will fit, can anyone recommend a moderate tire size that will not present clearance issues?

Thanks in advance for your help...I am relying on you guys since the dealerships seem to know less than the enthusiasts.

Thanks,

SolaraSE1999

1. Bolt Pattern is 114x5 like Gen 1. They should if the offset is ok, which I think it is.

2. No, should be the same thread size on the wheel studs.

3. 225/45 or 215/50

Gen 5 camry wheels will not fit on gen 4 camrys because of a width issue, so i would assume then gen 2 wheels from a solara wouldn't fit gen 1, but you should double check the offset and tire width to make sure

bob, i've got gen5 xle 16's rims on my gen 4, fitted perfectly! and look great too!
THere is a member on solaraguy who's got gen 2 solara wheels on his gen1 solara. Ask him if he needed spacers in the rear??

I saw that post sounded like he had the O.E. Gen 2 tires on his car. I bet that was part of the problem. They're higher profile than we can properly run on a 17. I want to say they're at least a 55 if not bigger. I checked on Tirerack.com and they said a +42 is right for the Gen 2 Solara, an offset that we can also use. So I am a little lost as to what the problem is.

ahhh, my bad then, cause I just remeber the post on here with the guy with the gen5 se and he sold his se rims to another member who drove to pick them up but they had issues with fitment, so I guess Solaras are different afterall

Currently Kim and I plan to be there again. I am going to start working (a real job), soon so that could be a factor.
