I was just wondering...if anyone can help me with some info!....I just bought a 02' Solara....the only thing its a 4 Cyl.....can someone tell me what mods can i put (if any) into my ride....i really like this car alot....so I hope theres some...oh please god i hope theres some. Im really geting annoyed at all these little Civics wanting to race....i dont know if i can beat the crap out of them...I did get the itch once on the freeway, this v6 Cougar was flying...so i punched it and smoked him i was doing a kool 110....he tried to catch up...but no dice, but im cunfused cuz once a sentra se smoked me off the take off....so I dont know what my solie can and cant do...someone help.
unfortunately, your solara is slow- it's a heavy heavy car, just as with the camry
don't know about the cougar....but a sentra SE-R would smoke you with no problem, and so would a civic si.
your best bet to start off would be getting a cai or making a cai yourself, and then getting headers, high flow cat, high flow resonator, and high flow muffler put together with mandrel bent piping
make a search for more info on potential power mods, but keep in mind that unless you go boost, your car will doesn't have the potential to be fast

Cai?? what is that short for?? and how do I make it myself??....i figured i coulndt do much to my ride but....157hp is not to shabby...and if I upgrade all those thing you told me it would be enought for me....i dont ecpect it to run 10's or 9's....i just want to make it better.
dude CAI=cold air intake. and yes ur solara may have 150 some hp but in a 3200 ur car is slow. if u ever hope to keep up u will need to do some serious weight reduction and boost tht thing. gl man
I saw some stuff on ebay it was called " INJEN short ram intake" but it doesnt specify if it is a cold air intake or hot air....if i install that and high flow mufler would that even make any diffeence at all?? and if it does how much???
The only way to see a big improvement in power is with a turbo. I rec. instead of trying to go fast, save yourself the money and hassles of speeding/reckless driving tickets and invest in some wheels/suspension/audio,etc upgrades.
well im not that big on sounds....the Solara already has a jbl stock system...ill settle for that.....i would want some wheels but they are SOOOOO expensive!!!.....
as said above...for the 4cyl your main route is to get a custom turbo if you want power, but it will still be only about as fast as the v6 solara models...
like cam2xrunner said, work on suspension/exterior...atleast you'll look fast and perhaps those civics won't mess with you anymore!
btw, check out solaraguy.com for info on what mods are available...
That line about cold air intake and hot air intake is slightly amusing, I'd like to try to clarify it for you.
Stock intakes pull air from the area around the engine, which is typically warmer than the outside temperature. This is fine and dandy, however colder air is less dense than warm, and more can be fed into an engine when cold, in turn helping to create more horsepower. There's no such thing as a "hot air intake" per se, other than the fact that the stock one, or anything pulling air from close to the engine, is pulling hot air.
The Injen short ram intake is a step in the right direction, but does only half the job. It still draws from inside the engine block area and some people I've talked to have said they've experienced power losses from installing them. To complete the job, you need an extension that brings the air filter down out of the engine bay. One has been made for the solara, but I'm not sure where to get it. If you're interested, PM WortownSolara and he'll help you with that. That allows the car to draw in colder air, as finally the intake is away from the engine.
As far as an exhaust goes.... its a step in the right direction but I wouldn't look for anything major out of it. I put the GREddy Evo II on my V6 and maybe picked up a pony or two. I love the sound, and once I get some money for other mods I'll see a bigger difference. Alone however, nothing major.
Wow Graci thank you....I was going to put a cold air intake, but I just heard that thy are easy to get clogged...is that true? and is so...is there any way to keep it form getting clogged? About the exhaust....one pony aint shit....but it does make the car sound good!!! how mush would an exhaust be? do you know or have any idea?
Clogged intakes... I suppose its possible, but not really probable. The true cold air intake I mentioned locates the filter right behind your drivers side foglight. The cone filter would prevent anything large (rocks, stones, dead animals) from getting sucked in, as would the stock splash guard underneath. It is possible for moisture to get in but again not likely unless you take your fog light or the splash guard off.
Exhausts... I love my GReddy Evo II, and I've heard similar praise from other owners. If you go to www.solaraguy.com (I highly recommend) there's a section "Wanted/For Sale" and there's a thread offering a discount on the Evo II... I think its like $600 for a full cat-back system (piped from the catalytic converter all the way back and replacing the muffler). TRD also sells a muffler (I think its just the muffler, not a full cat-back) for $400. The Apex'i World Sport, sometimes abbreviated "WS" is another cat-back system thats fairly popular, but I don't have any firsthand knowledge of it.
Not to be a shill but there's lots of MOD info for your G1 on SolaraGuy.com. Intakes, super charge, TRD gear, even DIY performance tuning. For what you want, that's probably your best bet for info.
