Proto-Type Needed in Baltimore Washington Area for MAFci System
Hello,
We are currently looking into developing a MAFci System for the 3.3-liter DOHC 24-valve VVT-i V6 Camry Solara. If there is enough interest in the older generation 3.0-liter, we would like to make a system for this car also. A MAFci System is our, Custom Performance Engineering, line of intake systems. It is the first line of intelligent intakes designed specifically for mass air sensor equipped cars and trucks. The Toyota mass air flow sensor makes the 3.3 Solara a perfect candidate for the MAFci System.
Every MAFci system includes a high flow aFe reusable filter and all the associated plumbing (Usually 3.5" OD pipe), a bigger mass air sensor housing, associated hardware, and a MAF Customizer. The MAF Customizer is what allows the use of bigger mass air housing and is also used to tune the car for gains not possible with other intakes. Typical gains on a V6 are around 15-25 wheel hp and 17-30 wheel hp on a V8. We made 20 wheel hp on the 3.5 Nissan Altima.
This post is to see if there is interest among the 3.3 Solara owners. If we could get a list of about 15 people who would be interested, if the above stated gains were realized, that would be enough to start research and development. If we see enough interest we would be highly interested in making it for other versions and years of the Solara as well. We do not expect money we just want a list to determine if there is interest out there. If there is interest then we will develop and test a prototype to determine if the gains are there. If they are we would like to sell it if not the project will be scrapped.
We are also looking for a stock performing 3.3 Solara in the WashingtonDC, Baltimore area to do the development on. In return the owner will receive a free tunable intake for use on his/her Solara.
We would also like your input. What types of things would you like to see included in the design of this intake.
Please visit www.mazda6tech.com, www.mazda6club.com to see voiced opinions of our products. Please also check out the dyno video of the STi MAFci System on our web page, www.cp-e.com. Please direct all e-mails, questions to Josh Adams at Jadams@cp-e.com. Thank you again for your time.
Custom Performance Engineering is still looking for an applicable Solara in the Washington D.C. Baltimore area. We think we can provide your community with substantial gains with a piggy back CAI combo for your Solara. This system also has the capability to be tuned further for future modifications. Please contact me via e-mail at JAdams@cp-e.com or 301-576-6142. We need a stock performing Solara for our MAFci™ System. We hope that we can have the opportunity to prove ourselves to the Solara community.
No stats from the shop yet on the proto intake from Custom Performance Engineering (CP-E) but I thought I'd give you guys the tour to get everyone thinking horsepower.
To review, they made their name in the Mazda community with the Mazda6s MAFci™ System . The bottom line was average gains of 16.58 hp and 15.85 ft lbs., with peak differences of 24.03 hp and 20.35 ft lbs. They sell that for $539 for the non-tunable kit. Their MAF customizer fixes the fuel trims to make the factory ECU happy while tuning the Air/Fuel ratios for maximum horsepower. The tunable kit lets you tweak the settings to accomodate new mods so you get the best mixture for best HP.
I drove my Solara to MD last weekend. It was the first time I ever let go of the keys to non-Toyota people.
They were very excited about finally having a Solara in the shop. The whole business started when one of them nudged the other in a parking lot, looked at the new G2 Solara, and said, “We should make an intake for that thing.” Upon opening the hood, Josh’s eyes lit up with ideas. He was rattling off possible products with a heavy emphasis on the look of our headers.
So here’s the shop. Not sure what I expected but I was surprised to find that they do nearly everything in house. They have all the machining tools and even their own dyno. All the sub out is the bending of the pipe and the powdercoating.
They do their initial testing in house but for any stats they publish they have an outside certified dyno for independent results.
Here’s some of their products… they don’t charge until they ship unlike some smaller shops that use your money to pay for the last guy’s order. Sorry to the guys who will want red or black pipes... All pipes are powdercoated "star dust silver". The pics don't do it justice though. Nice look.
Some other cars they’re working on:
Josh with one of his pipes. The proud father… He’s going to try a 3.5” in the Solara for the proto. Hope it fits!
One other thing that caught my eye was the instructions for the Mazda kit. No crappy photocopy or hand drawn pics. Full color and easy to understand. Overall it looks like these guys have their stuff in order. (or I wouldn’t give them my car)
You can hit www.cp-e.com for more info on the stuff they make. (not just intakes) If this project works out, I think these guys will be great friends of the SolaraGuy for a long time coming. The fact that they’re the first to pay attention to our car certainly gives them the edge.
If you guys have any questions, I'll ask them when I talk to them. Otherwise, I'll be sure to post any noteworthy updates and eventually the results of the mod. We should know something next week but I don't get the car back until the first pipe is bent and coated. That's June 9th.
Potential good news from cp-e! They did the stock dyno run and found the mixture to be even richer than they had hoped. That means potential for HP! Further updates as events warrant.
