Unhappy Replacing bad tweeter in '99 Solara??

Howdy, fellow Toyota owners!

I recently purchased a used 1999 Solara SLE. It seems that the tweeter in the driver's side door is not working.

It looks like I need to take off the door panel to get to it and check to see whether I am lucky and it is just a loose wire, or if the tweeter is blown.

My question is: How hard is it to remove the door panel? Any tricks to doing it?

Please feel free to e-mail your reply to me at dmullene@msn.com!

Regards, Dan

It's not one of the most difficult things to do, but due to its extreme visibility, it is certainly something worth spending some extra time and effort on. There are two main bolts, one on the portion closest to the door hinge (covered by a small round circle) and another behind the door handle (I think, it's covered by a little hinging flap). Undo those first.

Then you need to pull off the plastic piece around the door handle/lock mechanism. From what I've heard, this is the most difficult. I know it involves some sliding and lifting, but thats about it.

Lastly, using a panel fork or screwdriver if you're extremely careful, go around the edge and seperate the skin from the door.

It's hard to explain. but the hardest part is take out the plastic cover piece by the lock. you may buy a OEM toyota repair manual vol.2 and exam the structure before you do it.
