2nd Generation Michael T's Custom Courtesy Door Lighting & Turn Signal

Hello everyone,

As some of you may know, I've been working on my car for the past 4
weeks now and have not driven it since this past Mother's Day weekend.

Finally, my two projects are completed and I'm very happy with the outcome.

The first thing to be completed was custom courtesy door LED lighting
in the door panel. This can be operated by the door trigger or a switch.

The second thing to be completed was custom LED turn signal in the side
view mirror housing. This has been one headache project for me because it was one of the first items on my wish list. I've spent an extensive amount of time and money on this project and I'm very happy with the results. I decided to go with white leds, instead of amber. This is more safety oriented for the night time. I'm sure amber would be more visible during the day. However, I chose white because of my car color.

I'm planning on offering the turn signal in the sideview mirror at some point, but still working out all the details. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I'm sure I can do this to any car/side view mirror. I just have to take a look at the actual mirror housing.

I greatly appreciate everyone's comments and feedbacks.

One last thing, I'd to give props to my good friend Luc for a very descriptive and informative relay and switch info. Also, Kenny (indiglosolara from SG) for electrical diagrams set up for my distribution block as well.

Thanks you guys.

Enjoy,
Michael

P.S. Please disregard the date stamp, I changed the battery and forgot to adjust it.

thats awsome, very clean work, looks oem can we get some night shots?

have you thought about using those mirror lights for illuminted entry as well? the angle of the open door might screw it up, but my friends explorer has a light on the mirror that lights up the ground around the door. the wiring would probly be a biznatch for that tho

Bob, the doors light up when the doors open. I also have a switch to turn off/on if need be.

Hey Michael, that's awesome. I've been kicking around the idea of craking open my side mirrors and seeing if there's enough room to put some LED's in the housing somewhere. So when the turn signal lights up, you see the glow around the mirror.

Very nice work, I couldn't get the vids to run for me though.

Later,
Will

I've already thought about this and the leds are not meant to stay on at all time due to low power draw. I'm running into lots of problems with the courtesy door leds due to this and the leds in the doors are blowing left and right. Too much current going to it. I'm going to try a resistor, but if that doesn't take care of it, I'll have to resort to something else. Not really wanting to install a bulb, but may have to .

I'm spending too much money on this courtesy door lighting project. Such a freakin' headache imho... The things we do for custom mods...lolz.

Hey Will,

Actually, part of the leds are inside the mirror housing and when the turn signal is on, it does light up the inside of the housing.

I've got cable modem and it takes about 1-2 minutes to load. Sorry if some of you guys are having probs. That's the smallest I was able to size it, it was 10MB.
