Yo guys I have a 99 solara se, and Im planning on purchasing a set of axis hiro rims, size 18x8.5 and i would like know what offsets do I use front/back? I want the front rim sitting flush, and the rear rim, i want flush with the outermost part of the lip in the back fender. Basically I think the front is like a 43, right? and the back might be a little more, like 40 or 38? Please let me know! Solaras kick ass...
LOL im actually from that forum, and on that thread in fact, but under a dif name. Thing is, i know i have to roll my rear fenders, so that not a prob, but I want to fit 245 40's on my car! Must be done, I want wide tires. Also i was a slightly staggered fit, so I want the rear slightly wider you know? Just dunno about the width of the rims...
Widy body is usually a very expensive procedure. Most of the widebodies out there are custom and rear wheel drive cars. Purpose of the widebody is to fit the widest wheels on the car. My friend decided to go widebody on his IS300. Paint , Flares, Shaved, Widebody came out to be around 10k. To answer your question about the 19x9.5 fitting, it will definetly will not. I think max is 19x8.5 for our solaras.
Well... you CAN fit a 19x9.5... but you're going to need to do a hell of a lot of mods... you're going to need to roll your fenders, get spacers, and get wheels with a very low offset... and even then, it might be a squeeze... I don't even think I can fit 9.5's in my Gen 5 Camry without massive mods to the wheel well, and the Camry wells are bigger than the Solaras.
I'd say, stick to a smaller width rim...

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
What about 245/40R18 18x8 with a +38 offset and rolled fenders? A tire calculator says that the tire itself will be .3" closer to the suspension/wheel well and 1.3" further out. I figure with a 1-1.5" drop (tokico hp kit) and rolled fenders, I can get those in there pretty easily. I'm want the most flush look I can find, and this looks like it can give me that as well as being super close to the stock height of the stock tire. Let me know what you think.
Maybe (probably) I don't understand your motives for mounting huge tires but maybe a heads up is in order.
There's a point of diminishing returns with tires. Do you really want the additional unsprung weight and the effect on braking and handling? Are you ready for the loss of torque on the ground from the larger tire diameter (so taller gearing) and the speedometer error? Obviously the Solara doesn't need wider tires to deal with massive horsepower output <G>. If you're only talking about larger wheels but low profile tires then maybe the effect won't be as bad but plan on a much rougher ride.
Anyway, if you're just going larger/wider for show and don't care about 'go' then have at it but there 'will' be a downside.
I have 19"x8.5" and the rim is about 1/4 of an inch away from my coilovers and it is just about flushed to the fender. I wouldn't get anything bigger than that.
Here is a pic on a 8.5" wide rim.
Here is a pic of the same rear rim's inside clearance.
Keep in mind that coilovers are thicker than regular struts so you might have more space than I do.
