Help Changing brakes on a 01 Solara SLE

I am going to change the rotors and pads on my wife's 2001 Solara Convertible SLE. I was curious to know if there is anything special i should do. I bought new rotors and pads from tire rack but i dont know if i need new caliper bolts and/or a shim kit? Is the shim kit really needed? I believe i need new caliper bolts but i am not sure. Can anyone offer any help. Can the existing shim kit and caliper bolts be reused?? Also does anyone have the torque specs for the caliper bolts? Thanks in advance.

i have not replace brake on my solara yet but i think the bolts and shim should be ok to reuse. at least i did so to my nissan and honda. just make sure you apply some brake quite gel onto the shim to help reduce noise.

Raybestos creamic pads come "Preshimmed" If you purchase these, (about $ 34.00) you can throw away the original shims.

Well if you get replacement Toyota pads, you can just reuse the shims that are on the pads now. Most aftermarket pads will come with shims to use. The caliper bolts can be reused. I would recommend getting OEM rotors and pads, seem to be the quietest to me. Only tools you are going need are a 14mm wrench for the caliper bolts, a 17mm wrench for the caliper bracket bolts and a pad spreader. The rotors are sometimes pretty rusty and you may have some issues getting them off, so I would recommend if you have this problem, run a couple bolts in the holes on the face of the rotor and it will push it right off. Hope this helps
