Rough shifting while driving.

Hi.
I did some research before posting this, but I could not find anything specific to my problem.
I own a 2000 Solara SLE V6 AUTO.
I noticed that when I get on the freeway, or let's say I go over 20 mph the car shifts a little "rough". I can feel a "pull" forward then backward when I let the gas go.
I read somewhere that after releasing the gas pedal it revs down pretty quickly.
I was wondering if that is something normal or not. I do not recall my 93 Honda Accord doing anything like that, and that was a much older and crappier ride than my Solara.
Thank you.

I have noticed the same thing with my 2000. It almost feels as if the car is jerking kind of back in forth when you take your foot off the gas. I don't know if this is normal but I don't like it and it feels as if there is a problem with the trans. I have 75000 miles on mine and haven't had any other problem with it.

I'm shocked that you feel your solara shifts harder then your honda...auto Honda's are known for shifting hard. I almost bought a CL a few weeks ago when I bought my Solara instead. It was the 3.0 V6 and it shifted harder then my auto 5th gen civic :p....

I wouldn't worry about it. If your mileage is up there...like 60k +, it might be time for the tranny oil to be changed and the screens cleaned. Other then that, it's all in your torque converter. I wouldn't worry about it...thats like a $2k part...and installation is certainly no walk in the park.

check throttle kick down cable (if you have it on those cars (i fya car is old school, there sa second cable running to the TB from the gearbox, loosen it a bit.

check the engine mount that connects the left side of hte engine to the left strut tower.. when the bushing in that tears you WILL FEEL it stab you in the back as the engine hits a hard stop ^^

or the easy option... be more smooth with the loud pedal, much easier to do

Try changing your fluid to Toyota T IV. Depending on your year and whats recommended it might help your shifting problem.

nope, no rough shifts here. i got a 2000 SLE too and the shifts are smooth and no jerking when taking my foot off the gas pedal. yes, i'd check the linkages and repalce the ATF AND the filter.

European Union transmission slightly rough

Hi,

Hopefully someone reads this add-on to old thread. i am a solara newbie. bought it as quite neglected. changed oil at LubeExpress, replaced so far air filter with regular FRAM, replaced spark plugs with original Denso, put new battery (Duralast Gold). still have some minor trouble with RPMs fluctuations but currently am working on it.
My question is that my car has only 36,000 miles and I can say that transmission behaves like it was slightly slipping ESPECIALLY when I let gas pedal go. as I can see it's not so normal as I thought. do you suggest changing trans. fluid either?
