potential new solara buyer with questions

Hi, I in the market for a new car , just sold a mazda3 which was great but i want more power and bigger/ sporty car at a good price, I was checking up the solara last weekend, i took a test drive and like the car very much. I'm stuck in between two models SE Sport V6 and SLE , what bothers me is that stability control/traction control is available only on SLE model which don't have sport suspension option available like the SE sport V6, also if i get SLE with leather in order to get power divers seat how is the leather performing over the years i have never had a car with leather interior so i'm not sure if i won't regret getting it after a while once i start seeing cracks and stuff...anybody here with leather interior here?
Also are there any major problems with these cars reported that i should be aware of?
I really like the car and nice smooth acceleration. So what do You guys think? is it reliable car as all toyotas. I have never owned a toyota (mostly european cars) and need some info.
Also too bad there is not HID option for yhe headlights, i think it would be nice. How is the SLE performing with stock suspenion?
Thanks

What are your potential modifications or the car (if any). Both SE and SLE are great vehicles. My take would be the SE sport cus of the bodykit and because of the stiffer suspension. People at solaraguy.com have mated that stock struts with lowering springs and have no problems. SLE struts can't be mated with lowering springs w.o problems (as what i recall).

I love my leather seats (not on my solara, my solaras came with nonleather). They are fine, as long as you condition your leather and clean it regularly it will be find (remember most people forget to condition their leather..they just clean it...always condition and then clean, its a difference process entailing different fluids). LEft pull was the only problem i recall, but if your buying a new car, this should be taken care of. You have halogen projectors. For a small price you can add h11 hid plug&play and those look sweet behind halogen projectors.

No mods , at least not the engine as it will be under warranty. do You use some type of leather conditioner? I'm thinking about the SE sport with sunroof and JBL sound system. Funny think is that on edmunds.com they say there is 06 year out already but none of the dealers i went to have them in show room, they ar all 05. Do people really need elecrtonic tability control/ traction control? i naver had a car with it so i'm not sure if i would need it.

Toyota Leather is probably just as good as Lexus leather. I had a 98 accord with leather and they started to crack within 3 years. My 2002 solara's leather still looks just as new. The suspension on the solara isnt what you call sporty, but more towards luxury. Feels just the the GS300 , ES300 etc. Great car for daily driving and great potential if you want to mod it.

accord leathers arn't that bad, always remember you got to condition before you clean, otherwise your just causing scarring!

If you want the leather interior, 8 speaker JBL, etc... go with the SLE
If you want the stiffer suspension go with the SE Sport

Last edited by Southaurora; 08-11-2005 at 09:17 PM. Reason: Corrected spelling errors, typed Sport after SE

Guys I'm about to purchase one (SE Sport) ,carsdirect.com I got the ball rolling with them in search of a car in my area, I have one more question...i have read somewhere that solaras are known for their problems of pulling to the side while driving i have read about the previous years and wondering if it's true, was it "fixed" in 2006 year? how true is that about pulling to the side?
Thanks
