Question Help for a newbie please

Hello all. I have a Solara quesion for you. This summer I bought a 2001 Solara SLE V6 convertible. Unfortunately, it did not have a manual in it.

My question involves the JBL stereo system. Apparently this system includes a subwoofer. Right now the sub is BOOMING and is so overpowering that it rattles the windows and my fillings.

Can you tell me where the subwoofer is located, and how/if I can adjust the volume & level of bass.

Thanks for the help

ok, now look at your stereo unit, look for a tiny word labled BASS

now look at the little picture with it (if any) that tells you what to do with what little switch

Not that I don't appreciate sarcasm but I am aware of the radio's bass control. However, as with many subwoofers, the bass control does not greatly affect the subwoofer, it mainly takes the bass out of the regular speakers.

Most subwoofers have some sort of control specifically for the sub only. Right now, even with the regular bass all the way down, the sub is overpowering.

So, my question again, where is the sub located and is there a specific level control for the subwoofer? Thanks.

Same problem here with an '02 ragtop. I did fade the rear speakers and turn the bass all the way down and that causes the stereo to sound like some cheap aftermarket junk. What a disappointment!

No sub

I think the sub is aftermarket b/c my '01 solara didn't come with one, and if that's the case find the amp and turn it down. I have 2 12" subs in my solara and my bass control for my head unit doesn't work very well except at -3 and -4.

Subwoofer control

I have a 2003 solara convertible with JBL sound. The subwoofer (in perfect shape) is muddy-sounding and overpowering especially at low volumes. Even with Bass set at -5, its often overpowering....its all you hear, like some Ghetto cruiser. Turn up the volume and the sub seems to subside a bit, but then ithe stereo is too loud. Toyota should have provided a "defeat" or "loudness" button to kill or contol the sub. I also have an SLE hardtop with JBL and no sub....and it sounds much better. SO- I will add some sort of control on the sub's amp. Perhaps an sub amp power on-off button I can push when the sub is "too much". Or a level control. If all else fails, I'll disconnect the
sub entirely and just go with the remaining 6 JBls. Toyota missed the mark on that "JBL" unit in the convertible....the sub it simply uncontrollable.
