10.94 @ 129.8

Well it's been forever in the coming.
It was pretty, but it happened ... Hyde went 10s.

First off, a HUGE thanks to Josh @ Chico Race Works ... this run was for him. Thank you JOSH!!!

I took the day off of work on Friday to trailer to Atco Raceway, one the bigger NHRA tracks in the region. It's a 2.5 hour driver, but Philadelphia traffic screwed me and it took over 3.5 hours to get ther *sigh*

We rolled Hyde out of the trailer, got it tech'ed warmed up the engine and got in line.

Atco was also doing the "put a cone in the groove so the street tire cars do not pull up the rubber in the groove." *sigh* So a stupid little pylon was forcing me out of the groove.

I had a decent burnout, managed only a 1.9 in the 60', but made a whopping 103 mph in the 1/8 and went on to a blistering 11.3 @ 130 mph.

I got right back in line, and not even 10 minutes later I got run #2.
I made some adjustments to the boost controller and managed a much better burnout. Still out of the groove I nailed a 1.67 in the 60' for a 11.12 @ 128 mph. That was a new best for Hyde as last year I went 11.13 @ 125.

I got out of the whole better, but the boost controller adjust obviously killed my mph. So, to go for the 10, I cranked the gain back up and then some ... fiddled with the ratio a little bit and got back in line.

That's when I learned there was a separate line for slick and drag radial cars.
If you are in that line, they move the cone and you get the groove.
I was too far in my line though to switch and I just asked the guy in the burnout bow to move the cone which he did!

Funny stuff:
So I attempted a burnout and it failed misserable. I just hooked up and hte car inched forward pushing the front tires. I killed the burnout, and reinitiated the process for a second burnout ... no dice. The car just went forward. I think the clutch/flywheel was not holding enough power to smoke the tires in second gear, but it was grabbing enough that pathetically pushed the car forward ... such is life. At any rate, trying to do 2 burnouts was enoguh to really tick off the clutch/flywheel combo.

I stage, the light goes green I an slipping the clutch in 1st gear for a 1.7 in the 60', the clutch pedal falls to the floor, I slammed it into 2nd and the car starts to bog out ... so I through it into 3rd and the clutch pedal popped back up and I just started to drive to the end of the track as the run was spent ... but then I realized the mustand in the other lane was catching up, so I floored in 3rd gear as he flew past me. I reeled him in really quick.

Hyde actually went 79 mph in the 1/8 to 121 at the 1/4.
Hyde went 13.2 @ 121 to his 13.6 @ 105. I dont think he was very happy about that

I pulled around and Raul ran over. He asked what happened as the run was obviously botched. I told the clutch completely went out. He said, "So are you done? Do you want to pack up?"

I said, "Nah, I'm gonna get in line with the slick/DR cars and get one more run."

Since the slick/dr line does not move until all of the street cars are done,
I figurred I'd have time to let the car cool off .... no dice.
I jumped out of the car (first time all night) and they called us to the lanes!
Back in the car I go, knowing this couldn't be good with everything so agitated in the drivetrain.

The run:

So I roll up and the burnout gets flubbed again (no surprise!).

So I start to stage with a fire-breathing slick'd mustang in the other lane (listen to his engine road in the video). Love or hate them, there is just no denying that Mustangs can be very fierce.

Anyway, regardles of my ET attempts, I've really been trying to get better at my reaction times.I had a .18 earlier in the night and a -.013 (talk about a close red light) and on the run against the mustang I redlit with a .082 to his .214.

I had a 1.662 in the 60' to his 1.514.
At 1/2 track we were real close:
Hyde: 7.126@102.97 Mustang: 7.009@98.19

He was much quicker, but my GT35R was building speed at a much quicker rate. As I hit 3rd gear, I felt a bizarre hesitation in the acceleration. Apparently the turbo crept to over 33 psi for which we are not tuned.
The map in the car is only tuned up to 26 psi and after that NoShoes has it pulling timing and adding fuel ... let me tell you, that is something you can feel. It was like trying to run in water.

The final was:
Hyde: 10.943@129.80
Mustang: 11.020 @ 122.36

Not a bad run for a bad clutch/flywheel combo and going flying off the tuning map. ... I can only wonder what it will do with a completed and the Tilton.

It was an awesome race and he waited at the turn around to give me a big thumbs up. When I got back into my pit area he drove by and yelled that he works for Toyota

I am now, 100%, done for 2006 ... really, I am done. No more.

So here's the video:

Here's the slip:

lol ... "Dom" ... I really wish he would stop calling

alfradio, we tried like hell to get a 10-second run out of the original, stock engine with 204,000+ miles on it. We actually tried killing the engine to do it but the engine would not die and we ran out of season in 2005. We went as quick as 11.1 @ 126 mph.

After we got the built engine over last winter we made more power than the clutch/flywheel could hold so we avoided the drag strip all year while we chasedour regional Solo2 championship and the PHA hillclimb championship. After wrapping up both of those, we decided to see if we could get a 10 out of her even with the power-to-the-ground issues ...

so we had 2 track outings and finally nailed that run.
It was sloppy, but we'll take it
