gas level

i was wondering how much gas i should keep in my car before i go to the track. i know that most ppl say u should leave a 1/4 of a tank in but sometimes i feel when its at half it has more pickup. like when i have less than a 1/4 sometimes it just sputters along. any help would be appricated

I've noticed that too, I think part of the reason you feel it has more pickup is because you're likely shifting more weight (thus more of a jolt when you hit peak tq).

If this isn't the case, it may be the fact that the fuel pump is not completely surrounded with gas and is scrounging off the bottom of the tank.

I'd be interested in hearing someone with a definite explaination of why this is though.

Dont worry about the fuel tank level ... just keep at least 1 to 2 gallons in the tank you have aplastic sump tank around the pick up of your fuel pump...

For a street driven car that you drag race everonce in a while, the advice I would offer is to keep enough in the tank to run all day or evening long, at least a few gallons, maybe 5. Weight isn't a concern unless you are heads up racing, in brackets you just want to be consistant and never worry about uncovering the pick up or running out of fuel, especially if you are fortunate enough to still be in the game after 5 or 6 rounds and get into the final
