"New" Paseo Owner

Just bought a 1992 Paseo from a co-worker. He's bringing it in to work tomorrow to sign over the title. We've talked about this transaction for several months while he took his time new car shopping.

With two teen drivers in the house, we've been looking for a 4th car to keep from having to shuffle rides around two or three days a week. This is our first Toyota. Looking forward to it. Currently own two Nissan Xterras (mine and my wife's) and two old VW bugs (a '69 that's currently on the road as a daily driver, and a '71 Super Beetle currently in a garage in grey primer).

Hoping we'll get as many good miles out of the Paseo as the current (soon to be former) owner has. It's got 160k miles on the clock, a great paint job, excellent mechanicals (save for the discharged A/C) and looks for all the world like a much newer car.

Only thing I think we'll address right away is to replace the timing belt. The current owner has had the car for four years and 60k miles and indicates he's never changed the timing belt, so I figure at best, it is just now due. At worst, it's probably waaay overdue.

Guess I'll be stopping by the auto parts store tomorrow to see if I can find a repair manual for it. Pictures to come.

it would be a good idea to do a complete tuneup if you can. i would do the timeing belt for shere. paseo's are great for low gas dayly drivers. just keep the service up and it will last a long time.

welcome

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, it's running a tad rich right now. We've already spoken to our mechanic and he's going to do the timing belt for us soon - $200 parts and labor.

Here's a pic (sorry for the size - I usually size my images to 800x600). I just spent the morning using some good cleaner wax on the roof (we live in the South, so paint likes to fade and oxidize pretty good in this area - especially red).
