engine info

Hello Toyota rep, I posted a request for information a couple of days ago but no replies as yet, however it is a difficult question. I live in Thailand and a year ago I bought a Maserati Spyder (hold on a bit, this is a Toyota website) the thing is though, due to spares problems the previous owner fitted a Lexus 4 litre V8 (factory original fitment 2.5Litre V6 Bi turbo). While the car was going I was very happy with the torque and performance and sooo smooth. The car however would rarely run for more than a week at a time, mostly due to poor electrics, Maserati not Toyota. Other faults with the car, the engine had been fitted in very amateurishly, poor workmanship spoiled the ride quality and handling. I like the car and am having it totally rebuilt, top to bottom. Now the question, and it may come down to a matter of opinion, the guy doing the rebuild tells me the engine is too heavy for the car and a straight 2.5 Litre six 1JZ or 2JZ would be much better, your comments appreciated. I have found the weight for the V8 470lbs, very heavy, how heavy is the six? Reliability of the six? V8 was fine although I did change the starter motor, water pump and associated front bearings, still I think a super engine, well impressed. I have looked all over the Internet for information regarding both engines, but only see good reports, which makes my decision even harder. If I change to the six, normally aspirated or Turbo? OK seems a silly question, if I want more power go for the turbo, but I also want dependability, are the Turbos prone to problems? Hope you can help, thanks, Ian
