OK, need good MPG, Highlander 2 WD?

I drive 30k per year in my sales job, and my old 1993 Explorer (207k miles) died back in January, so I picked up a low mileage Lexus RX and put 10k quick miles on it sicne January till last week..

Now I like the Toyota brand and need a crossover or SUV but I really need at least 25 MPG on the Highway.

Oh yeah, the wife gave me her 2001 Tahoe and took the RX, thats why I am now looking for a better MPG.

Can the Highlander 2WD do this MPG?

I had an 03 2WD 4cyl, I really liked it. I could get 22-24 in mixed city/highway driving. I almost always got less on the highway, unless the wind was right. I also drive 7-8mph over the limit. I do not think you will get 25mpg+ consistently in a vehicle of that size and aerodynamics. I counted on 20+, but did get as low as 18 against a good wind with the A/C on. I am not sure even a Rav4 will do 25 mpg consistently.

the aerodynamics dominate this size/shape vehicle. 4 cyl big vehicles suck highway...the engine has to work so hard (relative to full power) just to overcome wind resistance. for ex. i used to have a ford ranger 2wd 4 cyl 5 sp that was terrible over 75 mph because the engine was working so hard to go that fast vs the wind. it maxed out between 80 and 95 depending on the wind, capable of 90 in 3rd, 4th, and 5th fyi, 3rd revlimited at 90 or so. 4th and 5th were too high low gear ratio to go faster. course that was also POS 110 hp ford 4 cyl.
