Another new guy from Orlando, Fl. I own a 2005 Tacoma DBL cab 4x4 with the 4.0 and an automatic. I wanted to know if any of you have had your truck bump during starts and stops? It almost feels like a u joint is failing but it is not. Also the diff. lock is not currently working and is due to go in for this to be corrected. I asked the sevice manager about the bumping and he said it was due to the three piece drive shaft. This doesn't sound right to me. I have heard of some of the trucks having what they call axle rap. Any help on this would be great. I love the truck so far.

Thank you in advance.

Axle wrap is real common among Tacomas. I have an 04 and it does wrap. I dont know about 05's, but on the prev gen (like mine) I greased the crap out of the rear driveshaft (with the right lube) and jumped up and down on the bed, thus forcing the grease out of the slip joints, repeated the process and the axle wrap is gone. My wife was like . As for the diff lock, there is a process to engage it--it has to be in 4 Low (mines been modified so it works in 2 wheel drive and 4 high )

dana15,

Thanks for the response. I am finding out about this as I go along. I am thinking of making some changes to that myself. What good is having diff lock if you can't use it in all ranges.

^^^^I agree 100%. If I could only use mine in 4 Low--I would never use it. Here's an article on upgrading the 05+s to use the locker in 4 high and I assume 2wd, if needed. Looks a little complicated, but its worth it. Using mine in 4 High (while going about 15 mph) really helped out the snow traction esp on steep hills. I've never had a problem with this mod on my truck, its also reassuring to know that the Pre-Runners can use the locker at safe speeds in 2 wheel drive.

I am going to look into it. I will lay everything out and repost how it works and what is the best way to complete this. Thanks for the link.
