Canada Hello from BC

hello all,

I have owned many toyotas

1980 p/u shortbox
1976 celica
1990 p/u
1987 4runner
1990 4runner

in that order

the 90 4 runner is my lastest project. its was a basket case that I picked up for a song. It had never seen a dealer for years, maybe never, nor a mechanic that I can tell. nice interior, rusy body and leaks pretty much every fluid that is possible. It was driven into the ground. 275,000 km.

I have put in new head gaskets, timing belt kit, water pump (because I had it apart anyhow).

It still is pretty sick..
vacum lockers quit,
A/C quit,
started leaking coolant from somewhere at the back of the top of the motar, heater bypass I suspect,
and it leaks oil from the main seal/bell housing. augh.
it had a battery explode at some point in its abused life, and as a result all the plastic and electricals in the engine comparment are brittle or eaten away. This in itself has turned into a unique challange.

The interior is good shape and after cleaning it looked near new.

Its the first Toy I can honestly say is a peice of CRAP. but that is what you get when you don't pay much.

I may have bitten off more I can chew on this one.. so as I progress with its re-life, you may be hearing a lot form me asking how to fix this or that, or if any one has diagrams for vacum systems, cooling system, brake electricals etc.

My goal is get it back to stock, with some minor improvements, and to make it a reliable runner. The body is the least of my concerns at this point.

However I may just drive it to the crushers at some point and tell them to put it out of its misery.

I hate doing that, it feels like a funeral. Good luck and welcome.
