'88 4Runner - 22RE Heat Shield
Just purchased a set of new Thorley headers (Ceramic 4:1). I have a 22RE with Secondary Air Injection (got CA emissions). As I understand it the stock heat shield also is part gasket. If I remove the heat shield (I have read this could result in melted wires and in CA the shield is required?) and install only the Thorley gasket the Secondary Air Injection tube will not line up (yeah only off by a 1/16" - hate to mess with bending any EGR valve tubing). It seems to me keeping the heat shield makes sense except for I'd be putting a gasket on top of another gasket. Does anyone have any experience with this?
