Introduction & Throttle Lag & Air Induction

Hello All ! I am new to this discussion board. I own a 2002 Solara V6 SLE. I have a little over 50k miles. This may be the last car I buy for myself. When my son goes off to college next year, I'm planning to take back my old car from him (1998 Buick Century with 110k miles and going strong; yea I've heard all the jokes!) and use it as my daily commute again.

I love the Solara, particluarly driving on the Ohio country back roads. My wife and kids say that is crazy, it is just a car. I know that it is not as exotic as some cars I have driven, but it is still fun. My wife calls it my "mid-life crisis" car. Reminds me of being a teenager again.

I bought the Solara last December as the second owner; an early Christmas present to myself after being severed from my employer of 15 years! Used my severance package to pay for the car.

I've put almost 20k miles on this first year. I have not had any major problems. I have read some articles about the throttle lag problems. I have had this occur a couple of times. A real agravation when I put the pedal to the floor from a dead stop and nothing happens (longer than 1-2 seconds that some say). It has only happened when I turn the overdrive off, assuming that off the line acceleration would be better.

Now I don't turn off the O/D until the rpms are higher. I have not experienced any problem for awhile.

• So does anyone have or know of a solution for this throttle lag problem. A posting on the web mentioned a Toyota Service Bullentin but I could not find it.

• I'm also interested in anyone that has a similar year model that has installed an aftermarket air induction system. Manufacturer, where purchased, etc. Pros and cons?

• Also thought about changing out the standard halogen headlamps for HID until I read that the replacements don't last for more than 1 year. Now I'm thinking about driving lights but I would prefer something that looks stock fitting under the front-end bumper near the fog lights. If anyone has added lights and has pics I would appreciate hearing the particulars from you.

• Suggestions from you that have purchased aftermarket interior enhancements or performance items.

• Lastly, someone please let me know which model years go with which generations.

Welcome to the board, Steve! You should check out the Solara forum to post your problems there, I don't think many people come here and read threads in this section.
