Australia Installing new antenna lead 1990 Hilux

G'day everyone, I've got a problem I hope someone can solve for me.
I've got a 1990 Hilux twin cab ute (utility) 2.4 litre diesel, sometimes referred to as a truck in the States. The factory-fitted radio aerial has been snapped off, and I want to replace it with a spring-based aerial to avoid the same thing happening when I go into the bush (or wilds).
My problem is how to access behind the dashboard to plug in the replacement lead. I had hoped that the glove box/compartment might be removeable, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Then I tried the driver's side, almost removed the panel under the steering column but can't see how to remove the choke knob. Anybody got a simple answer? The dawg'll love you.

hi mate (from north ipswich here) and welcome to the forum. you might want to post this question again in the "audio, video and security" section or the "89-94 Toyota Pickup/Hilux" section as i'm not sure how many people would read your message here since most people just come to this section to say hi, that's all.
