New Corolla lover

Hello everyone,
I have a '76 Corolla liftback that I have grown very fond of. All I've done to it so far is put 60 series tires on it, headers, and a two inch exhaust system. I plan to find a T50 tranny for it to replace the 4 speed, and install the Weber 38/38 carb. Here's my problem....it's my daily driver, and the rear end has been howling pretty loudly lately. It always howled some, but I had a leaky oil seal and lost all the fluid. I need a new rear end, but have found that 31 yr old axle's are pretty hard to come by. What I would like to know is, what other rear could I use? I would be able to modify the axle, cutting, welding, etc., but not the car. I'm open to all other suggestions!
